Course Overview:
United States and New York History   
Social Studies 8 chronologically addresses the historical time periods from the Civil War to the present.   For each of the five major units, students will study and analyze the political, social, and economic affects of the eras.  In addition, they will be presented with primary experiences through literature of the time period, biographical highlights of significant people, and multimedia presentations. 

Supplies:
*binder for handouts and study guides/notes
*loose-leaf paper
*black or blue pens

Classroom Expectations:
1.  Be on time and prepared.
2.  Participate and follow directions.
3.  Be respectful of others and the school building/grounds.
4.  Listen when others are talking. 
5.  Treat others how you would like to be treated.
6.  Be honest and accept responsibility for your actions. 
7.  Be your best self and do your best work. 

Grading Policy:
Grades in this class will be comprised of tests, quizzes, projects, document based questions, graded HW and classwork, participation grades, and binder grades.
Tests and projects will be higher point values (50-100 points), as they are intended to weigh/count more.
The grades of the students are based on a total point system. For example if there is total point value of 250 for the marking period and your child earns 204 points.  204/250 = 82% average.
