Course Overview:
This course emphasizes the 4 components of English (reading, writing, speaking, listening).  We will read novels, short stories, poems and study the elements of fiction and literary devices.  We will work on boosting overall written expression through journal and essay writing, and spelling and vocabulary lessons. 
One major writing goal is to be able to write a cohesive and grammatically correct paragraph. 

Supplies:
*binder
*loose-leaf paper
*composition notebook/ journal
*black or blue pens

Classroom Expectations:
1.  Be on time and prepared.
2.  Participate and follow directions.
3.  Be respectful of others and the school.
4.  Listen when others are talking. 
5.  Treat others how you would like to be treated.
6.  Be honest and accept responsibility for your actions. 
7.  Be your best self and do your best work. 

Grading Policy:
Grades in this class will be comprised of tests, quizzes (vocabulary, spelling, and literary), projects, paragraphs and essays, journal writing, participation grades, and binder grades.
Tests and projects will be higher point values (50-100 points), as they are intended to weigh/count more.
The grades of the students are based on a total point system. For example if there is total point value of 250 for the marking period and your child earns 204 points.  204/250 = 82% average.
