Transition

At Odessa-Montour, we have developed a transition program for students in grades 9-12 to help them become prepared to meet their post-secondary goals for employment, education/training, and independent living. Students participate in both individual and group transition activities through this program.

What are some examples of transition activities?

  • Training sessions in the following areas such as time management, self-advocacy, driver permit, employment strategies, and job interviews.
  • Exploratory career field trip
  • Field trips to local community colleges
  • Field trip to a local bank
  • Field trip to the local courthouse
  • Field trip to the Schuyler County Human Services Complex
  • Job shadows to area businesses/workplaces
  • Individual activities as specified in students' IEPs
  • Other group activities when available

Will students participate in all of the transition activities listed here?
  • We try to ensure that students will have the opportunity to participate in as many of these activities as possible according to their transition needs.
  • We work with a transition facilitator from BOCES to help us plan these events and partner with local agencies and businesses.
  • There is no guarantee that all activities listed will be offered each year. However, we do our best to give students a wide variety of experiences that will help prepare them for their lives after high school.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about your student's transition needs or about our transition program here at Odessa-Montour.
