Pedometer Contest

Our (K-12) Physical Education Program has recently been awarded 30 pedometers from the Onondaga County Health Department as a part of the CNY Regional Healthy Heart-School-Based Initiative.  We now have a total of 41 pedometers, enough to outfit two PE classes at a time.

Our plan is to provide a friendly competition based on overall cumulative steps during PE classes among the three buildings.  Each building will utilize the pedometers during a 7-8 week period, in which the PE teachers' classes will go head-to-head in a competition during their regularly scheduled units of instruction.  Not only will this become a team-approached contest but it will also become an opportunity for individuals to make an overall improvement in their aerobic fitness level.  Each individual will be able to track their daily, weekly and monthly totals, as well as convert their steps into miles, especially at the higher grade levels.

Coach Green's and Coach Beam's classes will go head-to-head first beginning in December and ending February 13th.  Look for the updates on this site, in the district newsletter and in the buildings.  Also, watch for guests such as faculty, staff and administrators to contribute to this friendly contest.
