Daily Homework and important information will be handwritten into the student's agenda. We encourage you to look at your child's agenda on a nightly basis. As a general rule, homework should not take longer than 25-30 minutes.
Weekly Spelling Homework:
Second graders receive homework on a nightly basis. They get their spelling words every Monday morning. They print these words in their agenda on that weeks page. We have 12 spelling words each week.
Here are a few pointers on how to make learning the weekly spelling words:
- Give your child a pre-test early in the week to see what words he/she knows already.
- Group "like words" together (bake/cake/make and hot/shot).
- Give your child intermittent practice tests during the week. Then you can focus on the problem words.
- Encourage your child to visualize the word or draw the word in the air.
- Make sure to praise your child for their progress. If he/she is having a problem with a couple words but is doing well with the rest, be sure to commend them for what they are getting correct.
