Making of a Movie

If you start getting into movie editing there are a few concepts, terms and areas that may be new to you.    These files will open in Adobe Reader.  If you can't open these then you need to download Adobe Reader http://get.adobe.com/reader/

I would uncheck McAfee before downloading.  Sample below

I ordered the following CD's from http://www.schooltvmadeeasy.com/index.cfm.  Although you can't watch all the segments on the links below there are sections that you can watch to give you incite in what will be on these CD's.

Volume 1- Setting Up Your TV Studio

Volume 2- The 5 Steps To Create ANY Show

Volume 3- Creating School TV Newscasts

One of the cameras that we will be using is a Cannon VIXIA HV40 and uses MINI DV tapes.  The video below helps you understand on how to transfer media from these type of cameras to your computer for editing.

Transferring Videos on MiniDV Tapes to Computer

These are terms you should know.

Donut ~ A quick and easy way of setting up a show.  A donut would be the end result of setting up a show minus the script.

Script ~ A script is a document that outlines and tells a story.
T – Script ~ A script that tells how the cameras are going to interact with the speakers or people being interviewed.
V-screen ~ a term used in Adobe Visual Communicator to refer to the green screen.
Tray ~ The box that holds the action/actions in Adobe Visual Communicator
Wizard ~ a walk through menu like program to assist you in getting set up.
Scrub ~ to move trough something quickly
Teleprompter ~ (also known as an autocue) is a display device that prompts the person speaking with an electronic visual text of a speech or script.  Using a teleprompter is like using cue cards.

Stuff

  • You have to remember turn the teleprompter off from going to full screen when you are rehearsing your show.  The show should be pretty well set before you turn this feature on and ready for the final recording.
  • If you want to move more than one tray then you need to hold down the "Shift Key"Remember if you are moving trays in the middle all the trays will move below that tray.
  • Save your work. With this program you should do a "Save As"
  • You should be reading as the text is in the pink highlight.  If the text is moving too fast for you to read comfortably then you have to options. 1) slow the teleprompter down by using the slider or 2) insert spaces into your teleprompter script.
  • Make sure you give yourself spaces in your script that allows you to take a second to take your breath.  This will make you look more comfortable in front of the camera.
