African Drum Circle

BUILDING COMMUITY THROUGH MUSIC:

African Drumming beginning in January

The Newfield Community Drum Circle meets once per week.  The community is invited to partake in our weekly drumming sessions on Thursdays from 3:00-4:00 pm in the High School Library.  This activity is free of charge, and instruments are provided.  No experience is necessary!  We hope to integrate community members, including adult members and faculty, and students who wish to participate in the African drum circle.  Our drumming sessions will also include performances and workshops for those community members and students who are interested in attending.

Building Community through Music, African Drumming

It is a well-documented that pride in one s ethnic and cultural heritage is an important first step toward personal well-being and self-confidence.  Building Community through Music, African Drumming gives participants a new and deeper understanding of the roots of African culture.  At the same time, participants from varying cultural backgrounds gain a new respect for what Africa has offered to the rest of the world as an impetus to look more closely at their own heritage.

Again, Newfield Community Drum Circle will begin meeting in January 2007.  The public is welcome and encouraged to attend these weekly drumming sessions.  No previous experience necessary.  The group gathers each Thursday from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the High School Library.  Please contact Sunshine Miller (564-9353 x1068) or Glenn Caslick (564-9353 x ) if you wish to join the group or just want to stop in to see what s happening!  There is absolutely no cost to participate and many instruments will be provided for use through grant funding.
