Clinical Rules and Conduct

 

1.  Students must be in full uniform to attend clinical rotation, which means:

        

          Assigned class color scrub top and pants

          White nursing shoes or ALL white sneakers

          White socks or stockings

          Proper Undergarments

          Name Tag (provided by the school)

          Jewelry: One pair of stud earrings only (one per ear) –             no bracelets, rings, necklaces, tongue or nose studs.

Artificial Fingernails or fingernail extensions have been positively linked to the spread of certain infections; they are not permitted during clinical rotation.  Natural fingernails are to be kept clean and well manicured.

Light makeup – no perfume or cologne.  Patients will have Allergies and Breathing Problems – To avoid the potential risk of aggravating allergies and breathing problems with patients – perfume and scented body lotion are not to be worn during clinical time.

 

Body art, tattoos, and body piercings (other than stud earrings) may not be visible to normal view during the time at the facility.  The student must take steps to assure it is not visible, using methods to conceal them that will not themselves appear out of place.

 

2.     A pen (blue or black only), small pocketsize notebook, and a watch with     a second hand are required.

 

3.     A daily log and weekly report will be required during each rotation.  (Instructor will provide guidelines)

 

4.     Students will demonstrate professional conduct at all times: respect will be shown to all individuals.  No vulgar Language, inappropriate gestures, or acts of insubordination will not be tolerated.

 

5.     Safely and Infection control procedures must be followed at all times.  Violations of these will result in a student’s removal from the unit and may result in further disciplinary action.  Students will follow the direction of the staff and instructor at all times.

 

6.     Attendance at all clinical rotations is mandatory.  A grade of zero will be given for any absence(s).  There is no make up for missed clincials.  Allowances can be made for extenuating circumstances (long term illness) at the discretion of the instructor.

 

7.     If a student is unprepared for clinical they will be sent to ISS and receive a grade of zero for that day.

 

8.     Students who fail to maintain a minimum grade of 75% and/or satisfactory completed all skills required for clinical will be held back from that rotation and will be given additional assignments or instruction.

 

Clinical rotations are a partnership between the school and the facilities that allow us to practice our skills, gain experience and become familiar with the health care delivery system of our community.  It is the responsibility of all students to help maintain and foster this partnership by demonstrating good clinical skills, integrity, respect, confidentiality and professionalism.
