I have chosen to use YogaKids in our classroom for short movement breaks for the many ways that it will benefit the students. YogaKids techniques in the classroom:
- Become springboards to learning in all subject areas.
- Encourage healthy lifestyle choices.
- Build focus and concentration.
- Provide techniques that help students relax and calm any jitters.
- Wake up sluggish minds with simple, invigorating movements.
- Balance and coordinate the two hemispheres of the brain.
- Oxygenate students' systems with slow, even, deep breaths that promote a relaxed, comfortable state, and get kids ready to learn.
- Generate a non-competative atmosphere that fosters a can-do attitude.
- Create a positive social interaction with partner and group poses.
- Make learning fun and accessible to everyone.
Numerous studies show a link between yoga and better learning, improved behaviors, and higher self esteem. In 2007, a study conducted by Purdue University and Indiana University concluded that " YogaKids Tools For Schools has a significant positive effect on the academic acheivement, general health, personal attributes and relationships of students."
