Spanish II Course Outline
Objectives of the Spanish II Course:
In Spanish II, students will continue topics from Spanish I, IA, and IB in an advanced mode. They will also learn to:
⇒ use additional, new vocabulary under each topic
⇒work with more advanced grammar such as the preterit & imperfect tenses, and commands
⇒speak more easily in Spanish, spontaneously and in prepared talks
⇒ read and comprehend longer passages and answer questions on them
⇒ appreciate the cultural differences, celebrations, special occasions, etc. of the language
⇒listen for comprehension
⇒write short (at least 75 words) letters, compositions, and journals in Spanish
⇒ understand the main idea and details in television, radio, and live presentations
⇒use repetition and other nonverbal cues for communication
⇒recognize that there are linguistic and cultural variations
⇒understand how words, body language, rituals, and social interactions influence communication

- regular/irregular verbs
- stem-changing & reflexive verbs
- the preterite tense
- the imperfect tense
- object pronouns (direct/indirect/double)
- negative and affirmative expressions
- formal and familiar commands
- the future tense
