Career Pathways

Description: In this semester course, students will first learn their role in the workplace and the economy. They will then have the opportunity to analyze their personal strengths, weaknesses, lifestyle goals, and work values. They will research several career options and have the opportunity to listen to guest speakers from various fields and occupations. They will match their interests and goals with a few career options that suit them well and will then determine how to create a career plan. We will cover the methods available for finding employment, how to present themselves to a prospective employer, and what prospective employers will expect from them on the job. We will also discuss money management and balancing a career, life, and family.

The skills and methods used to teach this course support all instructional areas, the NYS Learning Standards for Career Development and Occupational Studies and the SCANS skills.
