Course description-
 
            The first half of the year is based on the foundations of Ceramics. Students will be learning techniques to create an artwork using clay. Methods such as slab, press, coil, and sculpted pots will be researched and created. Students will be taught how to work with the clay in order to create a well balanced piece of artwork that is not only structurally sound but is interesting to use.
            The second half of the year will be based on learning how to use the pottery wheel. Students will create a series of projects on the wheel including but not limited to: A plate, cup, saucer, bowl, pitcher, tea-pot and piggy bank. Students will each have a designated day that they are scheduled to be on the pottery wheel. One FREE day will be scheduled each week so that any student who was absent or unable to work on the wheel their scheduled day will be able to get on the wheel to complete their assignment.
            In addition to working on the wheel students will be learning how to creatively glaze their work and finalize their projects.
 
Homework-
            Their will not be any homework in this class as we are working in materials that are not conducive to transportation. Students are expected to work during class periods and if needed after school.
 
Grading-
            20% of a student’s grade is based on attendance
            40% is based on green ware
            40% is based on a final glazed project
