Attendance

Attendance records are maintained in the health office as well as with each teacher. It is the position of Bradford Central School to encourage daily school attendance. If a student is late to school or absent, the law requires an excuse stating the reason for the tardiness or absence. The student must bring a note to the main office upon their return to school. Students who are tardy to school must report to the office first before going to classes. They are to sign in and obtain a pass from the office.

Excused absences consist of:

  • Personal illness or death in the family
  • Approved college visit
  • Medical/dental appointments with physician's or dentist's signature
  • Learner's permit or road test
  • Religious observance
  • Quarantine
  • Required court appearance
  • Impassable roads or inclement weather
  • Attendance at health clinics
  • Approved cooperative work programs
  • Military obligations

Parents are asked to call the front office as early as possible (7:00 am) at (607) 583-4616 or the health office at extension 232 when their child is absent.  A written excuse is still necessary when the student returns to school for the absence to be legal.

Unexcused reasons for absence or tardiness consist of but are not limited to:

  • Visiting
  • Shopping
  • Needed at home
  • Babysitting
  • Employment
  • Overslept
  • Hunting or fishing

Students who have an unexcused absence may be subject to disciplinary action depending on the circumstances.
